For decades, the northeastern corner of I-285 was defined by auto manufacturing plants and freight lines. When General Motors shuttered its sprawling assembly plant in 2008, Doraville faced an identity crisis. The subsequent redevelopment of the district sparked an unexpected cultural corridor along Buford Highway and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Exhibition Hub chose this pocket of DeKalb County three years ago to establish its primary Atlanta art center, repurposing 50,000 square feet of commercial floor space.
The venue previously earned its local reputation through historically anchored productions. It drew massive suburban crowds for deep dives into Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and the artifacts of the Titanic. Bubble Planet represents a distinct shift in tone. Rather than curating classical fine art or historical tragedies, the current installation targets pure dopamine.
The strategy reflects shifting consumer spending patterns across metro Atlanta. Parents constantly search for weather-proof family-friendly attractions that offer climate-controlled play during humid summers and unpredictable winter rains. By converting industrial square footage into a multi-room interactive art installation, the venue operates as an indoor theme park stripped of roller coasters but heavy on spectacle.
