Aubrey "Drake" Graham was born on October 24, 1986. Long before stadium tours and multi-platinum plaques, Graham and his close associates, chiefly Oliver El-Khatib and producer Noah "40" Shebib, needed an umbrella identity for their work. They landed on October’s Very Own, a direct nod to Drake's birth month.
The moniker first surfaced in the mid-2000s on Drake’s early blogspot pages and mixtape packaging, most notably around the 2009 release of So Far Gone. What began as a personal signature soon matured into a full corporate footprint. In 2012, Drake and El-Khatib partnered with Warner Records to launch OVO Sound. The label quickly developed its own sonic identity: atmospheric synthesizers, submerged basslines, and introspective lyricism.
The roster expanded to feature prominent R&B and hip-hop acts, including PartyNextDoor, Majid Jordan, Roy Woods, and dvsn. In music discussions, referencing OVO almost always denotes Drake’s inner circle, his business operations, or the distinct Toronto hip-hop sound that redefined popular radio throughout the 2010s.
