A t-shirt's true test never happens in the dressing room. It happens inside a washing machine drum. To assess long-term viability, we put the garment through a rigorous shrinkage and wash test comprising 25 consecutive laundry cycles (cold wash at 30°C, followed by alternating line drying and low-heat machine tumbling).
| Test Phase | Dimensional Shrinkage | Fabric Pilling & Surface Wear | Collar & Seam Integrity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial / Cycle 1 | 0.0% (True baseline) | Smooth, zero fuzzing | Flat, crisp 15mm binding |
| Cycle 10 | 2.1% length / 1.0% width | Minimal friction underarms | Ribbed collar maintains tension |
| Cycle 25 | 3.8% length / 1.5% width | High fabric pilling resistance | Zero torquing; ribbed collar durable |
The findings disprove the assumption that sub-$30 t-shirts inevitably warp. Because the cotton yarn underwent pre-washing during the initial VintageSoft treatment, residual shrinkage remained below 4% total length loss. More importantly, colorfastness over time proved consistent across core shades like washed black, navy, and heather grey. The garment avoids the chalky, faded degradation typical of cheap sulfur dyes.
