Will my existing 423 telephone number change to a 729 area code?
No. Existing telephone numbers retain the 423 area code. The incoming 729 code applies only when a customer requests a brand-new telephone line after carriers run out of unassigned 423 numbers.
Do emergency services like 911 require 10-digit dialing?
No. Three-digit abbreviated service codes, including 911 for emergency response, 988 for suicide and crisis lifelines, 211 for community services, and 811 for utility line marking, continue operating without an area code.
What occurs if someone dials a seven-digit number today?
The call will not complete. The network plays an automated intercept recording instructing the caller to hang up and redial using the area code followed by the seven-digit telephone number.
