The continued expansion of unverified gossip highlights systemic gaps in online community moderation. While major platforms like Meta, YouTube, and TikTok employ automated systems to block non-consensual sexual content and defamation, secondary web forums operate under far looser standards.
LPSG relies on a combination of volunteer moderators and community reporting. Content takedowns typically take place only when copyright holders submit formal Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notices. Even then, threads questioning a public figure's personal life or discussing hypothetical leaks routinely escape removal under the guise of free discussion.
Moderators rarely censor threads that merely ask questions. A topic titled with an influencer’s name followed by a question mark technically avoids legal thresholds for libel in many jurisdictions. Yet the downstream effect remains damaging: search crawlers ingest the title, indexing engines display the query, and the public associates the creator with illicit or explicit material indefinitely.
