Viewers constantly search whether Megan Stewart was ever found alive, largely because the mockumentary format tricks casual viewers into believing they are watching real crime footage. Megan was never rescued, and her fate is significantly worse than audiences anticipate during the film's first half.
After Megan disappears at the park, the fictional investigative reports present conflicting theories. Some suggest she ran away due to troubled home dynamics, while others suspect foul play. The grim reality emerges only when the predator kidnaps Amy weeks later. Megan was captive in the predator's isolated hideout the entire time.
She was subjected to sustained physical torture, starvation, and sexual abuse. By the time Amy crosses paths with Megan again, Stewart is already dead. The predator leaves her corpse in an industrial barrel out in the desert, setting the stage for the narrative's bleak climax.
