While the focus stayed glued to the recast leads, the bedrock of the Smith family held the entire enterprise upright. Chris Parnell (Jerry Smith), Sarah Chalke (Beth Smith and Space Beth), and Spencer Grammer (Summer Smith) provided an essential structural foundation. All three seasoned actors signed on to continue their work without hesitation, acting as the stabilizing bridge for Cardoni and Belden.
Parnell’s deadpan, pathetic delivery as Jerry remained the primary comedic punchline across Season 7's strongest episodes, such as "Jormungandr." Chalke delivered complex double-duty performances exploring Beth’s dual domestic and galactic identities. Grammer brought Summer’s sardonic edge into sharper focus as the character took on more companion adventures with Rick. In press interviews during the transition, the veteran cast highlighted how smoothly the new actors integrated into the table reads, emphasizing that the writer's room under Dan Harmon continued to carry the show's philosophical weight.
