Winning hands rarely rely on straight discards alone. The primary strategic mechanism involves moving card columns across the board to unlock trapped spaces. If an entire cross foundation starts with a card that fits legally on the base card of another foundation, the active player can shift the entire column onto that pile.

Consider an example where the North pile shows a sequence running from a black 9 down to a red 7, while the East pile terminates at a red 10. The player may lift the entire North stack and set it on top of the East pile's red 10. This consolidation frees up the North foundation space entirely.

Vacant foundation spaces are critical assets. The active player can fill an empty cardinal space using any card or existing valid column from their hand. Opening and filling these spots allows players to unload high-value cards, such as Queens or Jacks, that lacked a compatible home on the board. Players may execute multiple column shifts within a single turn, provided every move follows sequence rules.
