Pouring flavored malt beverages through a draft line introduces engineering challenges that traditional beers never present. Hard iced tea contains minimal carbonation compared to an effervescent Pilsner or IPA. Its dissolved carbon dioxide level sits lower, meaning typical draft dispensing pressures can over-carbonate the liquid over time, completely distorting the mouthfeel.
Set kegerator PSI settings strictly between 8 and 10 PSI using standard beverage-grade CO2. If using long vinyl lines exceeding eight feet, you may nudge the regulator to 11 PSI to balance line resistance, but exceeding 12 PSI will slowly force surplus carbonation into the tea, turning a smooth pour into a fizzy, prickly mess.
Hardware compatibility remains straightforward. Both sixtel and half-barrel formats use the standard North American Sankey D coupler. Ensure the probe washer sits flush inside the coupler body before locking the lever down into the neck of the keg. A pinched or missing neoprene washer leads to instant air leaks and foamy delivery.
